Nova Scotia Celebrates the Launch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey Brings the Program to 13 First Nations Communities in the Province (Toronto, March 10, 2008)On March 18th Invest in Kids in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation of Canada and Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey (MK) will launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 13 First Nations communities in Nova Scotia. The launch announcement will be hosted at 10am by the Indian Brook Headstart program at Indian Brook First Nation (near Truro). They are located at Sister Elizabeth Cody Preschool (516 Church Street) in Indian Brook. With this announcement, Nova Scotia becomes the first province where all First Nations communities will be participating in The Imagination Library program. A list of the participating communities can be found below. This exciting program is designed to give children an early start to their learning and development, providing age-appropriate books to encourage reading and language skills. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is being made available to all newborns from these areas through the support of the Federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, Atlantic Division. Each family will have the opportunity to register their newborn for the program and receive a free, age-appropriate book every month in the mail until their child’s fifth birthday..
